چکیده

In recent years, the role of bacterial sRNAs in adversity tolerance and pathogens has attracted increasing attention. A great number virulence-related were reported a variety human pathogens. However, only few from aquatic reported. our previous study, novel sRNA, sR158, was identified Edwardsiella piscicida, an important pathogen, but its function remains unknown. same we also type II TA system, YefM-YoeB, another study. current report, found that expression yefM-yoeB E. piscicida regulated by which is dependent on RNA chaperon Hfq. The deletion sR158 reduced to oxidation pressure, enhanced capacity for biofilm formation, increased adhesion invasion host cells immune tissues, boosted general virulence, are consistent with effects caused YefM-YoeB. These findings indicate participates stress resistance virulence regulating Our result first report system provides new insights into regulatory sRNA.

Identification and characterization of the chromosomal yefM-yoeB toxin-antitoxin system of Streptococcus suis

Toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems are widely prevalent in the genomes of bacteria and archaea. These modules have been identified in Escherichia coli and various other bacteria. However, their presence in the genome of Streptococcus suis, an important zoonotic pathogen, has received little attention. In this study, we describe the identification and characterization of a type II TA system, comprisin...

Influence of operator site geometry on transcriptional control by the YefM-YoeB toxin-antitoxin complex.

YefM-YoeB is among the most prevalent and well-characterized toxin-antitoxin complexes. YoeB toxin is an endoribonuclease whose activity is inhibited by YefM antitoxin. The regions 5' of yefM-yoeB in diverse bacteria possess conserved sequence motifs that mediate transcriptional autorepression. The yefM-yoeB operator site arrangement is exemplified in Escherichia coli: a pair of palindromes wit...

Toxin–antitoxin regulation: bimodal interaction of YefM–YoeB with paired DNA palindromes exerts transcriptional autorepression

Toxin-antitoxin (TA) complexes function in programmed cell death or stress response mechanisms in bacteria. The YefM-YoeB TA complex of Escherichia coli consists of YoeB toxin that is counteracted by YefM antitoxin. When liberated from the complex, YoeB acts as an endoribonuclease, preferentially cleaving 3' of purine nucleotides. Here we demonstrate that yefM-yoeB is transcriptionally autoregu...

YoeB toxin is activated during thermal stress

Type II toxin-antitoxin (TA) modules are thought to mediate stress-responses by temporarily suppressing protein synthesis while cells redirect transcription to adapt to environmental change. Here, we show that YoeB, a ribosome-dependent mRNase toxin, is activated in Escherichia coli cells grown at elevated temperatures. YoeB activation is dependent on Lon protease, suggesting that thermal stres...
